David Powlett-Jones is a young man dealing with what we now call PTSD when we first meet him at the end of World War I. Through his eyes, we view English culture and it's Public School system from 1918 to the beginning of World Ward II. Well told by R.F. Delderfield, himself a product of the Public School system, the reader watches the changes in Britian's class society and culture over a 22 year period. Well written, the book is enjoyable.

To Serve Them All My Days
Just a point...the synopsis written of this book is incorrect . This is the story of a soldier returning from France at the end of WWI and his life teaching in an English boarding school. It's only one story, but a brilliant one. My copy was too tattered to enjoy reading and I was very glad Alibris had so many clean copies to pick from. The story was new again to me as I'd forgotten so much of it since I first read it in the 70's. Read it twice, as the many details are easy to skip over, and you'll be glad you did. Delderfield's description of life in the 20's and 30's into the 40's is exceptional.
