It would pu'zzle him to know why a man of letters and of taste, a man, moreover, Of more than usually intellectual emi mence, and thoroughly versed in the various sys tems of philosophy which were then prevalent, should have come to so extraordinary a conclusion; especially when he considered that the apostle was addressing educated Greeks. If, through lack of early literary advantages and present intellectual vigour, he had been driven to the necessity of harp ing upon one subject, it would not have been so.
