Just prior to the outbreak of World War I, Leon is recruited by his uncle, Penrod Ballantyne, Commander of the British Forces in East Africa , to gather information from von Meerbach. He stumbles on a plot against the British involving the disenchanted survivors of the Boer War, but it is only when Eva and von Meerbach return to Africa that Leon finds out who and what is really behind the conspiracy. Last of Wilbur?
I've read all of the Wilbur Smith books and, as Wilbur and I grow older, wonder if Assegai is the last. With Assegai, he keeps the Courtneys alive and well.

A good read
As I said above, a good read, however, I do feel that perhaps Mr. Smith is struggling for fresh ideas. I am a big fan and will still buy his books regardless as I still find the stories compelling.
