COMIC GRACE
Farley Mowat's slim volume about his dog Mutt's adventures in the 1930s is a classic of broad humour and great elegance of expression. Mutt is an everything-but-a-dog kind of dog who walks fence railings, dives for game in the water, climbs trees and wears goggles in convertibles. He is an unforgettable charcater as well rounded in this portrayal as any human character in most great fiction.
Mowat's well established love for and kinship with all wild and tame life in the animal species is nowhere more pronounced than in this lovely Celtic exaggeration of a memoir that introduces us to a dog's life among pheasants, squirrels, owls, humans, children and skunks. Bravo!
