When purchasing a book through an Internet source, you usually have a particular author in mind, or I least I do if I?m in a field of endeavor that is familiar to me ? the computer field is not one of them. Thus, when thinking about going from Windows XP to Windows Vista, I purchased this book based on familiarity with the publishing house, not on the author. In the past, Peachpit Press had always served me well; I knew that they had an excellent cadre of technical writers. As a publishing house, Peachpit Press reminded me of Charles Scribner?s Sons in the era of their legendary editor, Maxwell Perkins, who garnered for Scribner?s F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemmingway, Thomas Wolfe and other great authors of that period, staking his career and reputation on them. The same holds true for technical authors, who are simply geniuses of a different kind. I was fortunate in my choice as the author disclosed that there are five editions of Windows Vista, which he delineated, and using ?Windows Anytime Upgrade, new in Vista, lets you upgrade your copy of Vista to another edition. You can upgrade from Home Basic to either Home Premium or Ultimate, for example.? To do this, you chose Start ? but you will have to buy the book to learn the further steps. For those who are considering Windows Vista and took typing in school rather than key boarding, Chris Fehily, the author, a genius of a different kind, wrote this book for you. Even if you excelled in key boarding, you just might learn something new. Fehily?s technical tips are excellent.
