Regency, Fantasy, Friendship--who can ask for more
This is not your typical Regency romance with a splash of magic -- not least because there is no romance in this tale of girl-meets-boy, and they revel in spell-casting. But, there is plenty of adventure and humor as Kim and Mairelon become friends and learn to rely on one another's strengths. They take turns saving one another as they travel through the English countryside searching for the missing pieces of an enchanted tea service known as the Saltash Set -- the very items Mairelon became a fugitive for when he was accused of stealing them. Wrede allows her two protagonists to show us that not every meet-cute ends with falling in love (or into bed). Sometimes it's more important to find friends and home than romance--especially if you've spent most of your life hiding and lying, like Kim. The story continues in "The Magician's Ward."
