Seller's Description:
Good. The format is approximately 9.375 inches by 10.5 inches. 285, [1] pages. Illustrations (photographs and drawings). Decorative cover. Cover has some wear and soiling. Red mark on bottom edge. This stylish panorama of the Great American Dream Machine reveals the wonderful unreality that made Hollywood the capital of pop culture and features quizzes, games, and gossip about stars. There are some interesting images, especially a series of stars with their lookalike stand-ins. Photofest was founded in 1981 by noted collectors and authors Howard Mandelbaum (co-author of "Flesh and Fantasy", "Screen Deco" and "Forties Screen Style"), and the late Carlos Clarens. The Photofest collection contains over 2 million images and is still growing. Photofest images have appeared in thousands of books, magazines, newspapers, documentaries, and TV shows. We also provide stills for film calendars, festival programs, exhibits, and web use. The book is divided into two main sections 1) Flesh & 2) Fantasy, both including about 12 sub-chapters. One of the interesting things is that in 1978, a bunch of these old-time Hollywood stars, legends, and wanna-be's were still with us, while the REALLY old silent-era, pre-Roman Catholic enforced Hays Code (ironically led by Presbyterian elder Will H. Hays) to safeguard the American public from what they deemed indecent and immoral, and pre-personal income tax period of wide-open Tinseltown; was not that far in the rear-view mirror at that time.
