My children -- especially my nine-year-old daughter -- love this book and the others in the Penderwick series, which I read aloud to them. It was recommended to us by a children's librarian friend of mine. It touches on serious themes in a thoughtful way. Such themes include the death of a parent, divorce, love, work-life balance, music, sport and sibling relationships. But most importantly, the story is fun to read.
