Fossils is one of many volumes in the lavishly illustrated Golden Guide series. This book serves as a guide to prehistoric life and as an introduction to historical geology. About half of the book describes life of the various eras and periods of geologic history; maps of North America depict locations of outcrops of sedimentary rocks containing fossils from the said eras and periods. The last half of the book describes invertebrate, vertebrate, and plant fossils. I found this book quite helpful as a supplement to my historical geology textbook. In conclusion, the many illustrations and concise text make Fossils an informative and useful book about prehistoric life.
