Killer thriller! Psychological suspense doesn't get much better than this.
Dave Gurney is a retired NYPD detective living in upstate New York. He's famous for bringing serial killers to justice. He's a master puzzle solver when it comes to homicides. And, boy, does he have a puzzle to solve here.
A man he knew in college 25 years earlier contacts him and asks for his help concerning some apparently threatening messages he's been receiving. Messages that ask "think of a number".
Which the sender guesses correctly in, you find out later, a criminally ingenious way.
It's a puzzle and Gurney starts putting it together as the twists and bodies pile up. Everything slowly clicks into place up to the nail-biting confrontation at the end.
I'll "Think of a Number". It's 5, for how many stars I'm giving it!

A page-turner but...
Our mystery book club read this and opinions were quite divided: some loved it; others couldn't even finish it. It was a rapid read for me but I thought the ending/solution was unbelievable. Basically It's entertaining but leaves no lasting impression, sort of like eating potato chips!

Good First Book
Enjoyed the many twists and turns in this novel - I don't like to guess the ending only half-way through the book...a fast read.
