In seinem Nach lasse fand sich nur der Anfang einer Disposition f�r denselben, ausserdem eine Reihe von Geburtsgeschichten, die er zur Ver wendung daf�r bestimmt hatte. Ich habe diese letzteren durch gesehen und so geordnet, wie es mir f�r die Veranschaulichung seiner Behandlungsweise am passendsten erschien. Der Leser wird dabei nicht �bersehen, dass die Beobachtungen einen ziemlich grossen Zeitraum umfassen und somit ein Bild der Ent wicklung und des Fortschritts in dem therapeutischen Verfahren des Verfassers gew�hren. Es w�re mir leicht gewesen, nach dem wissenschaftlichen Journale der Anstalt aus den Jahren 1847 und 1848 noch einige Beobachtungen von engen Becken hinzu zuf�gen; da indess diese nicht von Michaelis selbst nieder geschrieben sondern nur mit l�ngeren oder k�rzeren Randbe merkungen von ihm versehen sind, habe ich mich dazu nicht be rechtigt gehalten. Ich glaube �brigens, dass das Mitgetheilte vollkommen gen�gt, um die Eigenth�mlichkeiten der Behand lungsweise des Verfassers ins Licht zu setzen zumal da Jeder aus den in der Abhandlung entwickelten Ansichten sich leicht die therapeutischen Consequenzen ziehen kann und diese auch hie und da schon vom Verfasser selbst ausgesprochen sind. Mi chaelis hielt in der Mehrzahl der F�lle die extremen nat�r lich ausgenommen die di�tetische Behandlung f�r das Wich tigste. Sein Hauptaugenmerk war auf die Verh�tung und die Verbesserung falscher Rindeslagen gerichtet, da er in diesen eine der h�ufigsten und gef�hrlichsten Wirkungen des engen Beckens sah. Daher suchte er sich wo m�glich schon in der Schwangerschaft durch eine sorgf�ltige �ussere und innere Un tersuchung �ber diesen Punkt Gewissheit zu verschaffen. Eine zweckm�ssige Lagerung bei Nacht, bei nahender Geburt auch am Tage, eine Leibbinde besonders bei H�ngebauch, ein den Umst�nden entsprechender Druck durch Compressen in der Binde ausge�bt, waren die Mittel, deren er sich bediente von deren Unzul�nglichkeit er sich jedoch mehr als einmal uherzeugen musste. Auch bei Sch�dellagen war er vorzugsweise bem�ht, die bei engem Becken so leicht �ber das Maass abweichende Stel lung des Kopfes schon fr�hzeitig zu erkennen und auf die ange gebene Weise zu verbessern und scheute zu diesem Zwecke nicht die Untersuchung selbst mit ganzer Hand. Die Wendung auf die F�sse liebte er im Allgemeinen nicht, da er die Gefahren kannte denen eine Fussgeburt und namentlich eine Extraction bei engem Becken das Rindesleben aussetzt, selbst bei schneller.
