If this point is stressed by the teacher, the student soon masters the habitual rela tions of form, and lays a good foundation also for future studies in etymology. The Pronunciation is placed, where it belongs, at the beginning, but with due help may be better studied along with the earliest grammar lessons than in a body beforehand. The directions given are in tended to be simply helpful and approximate: only voice can teach voice. N o attempt, however, is made at phonetic transliteration, because none is believed to be helpful in elementary work.
