Es ist wohl m�g lich, da� Marston zur dramatischen Laufbahn nur �ber gegangen ist, weil einige Theaterunternehmer, die seinen Ruf auszubeuten w�nschten, ihn geradezu hierzu veranla�ten. Und wenn Ph. Aronstein, der Verfasser der kritisch-litera rischen Abhandlung "john Marston als Dramatiker ) den Dichter "eine bedeutende und originelle Dichterindividualit�t nennt, so ist dieses'urteil wohl insofern zutreffend, als seine Gr��e und Originalit�t sich in seinen Dramen in dem Ma�e zeigt, wie der Dichter Gelegenheit hat, seine bei�ende Satire zur Geltung zu bringen, w�hrend im �brigen der Wert seiner Dramen seiner flachen Auffassung von der Poesie �berhaupt entspricht, so da� die vereinzelten poetisch sch�nen Stellen uns nicht recht mit ihm vers�hnen k�nnen. Der Dichter will nur unterhalten und erg�tzen, wie es dem Geschmack des breiten Publikums am meisten zusagt. "er steht, sagt selbst sein Anwalt Aronstein, "der Poesie mehr als Dilettant wie als J�nger gegen�ber, und deshalb hat er auch nur wenig Vollendetes hinterlassen.
