Excerpt from American Government and Citizenship: American Political Theory; Government and Politics; International Relations Thus the Constitution was, in some respects, an excursion into the unknown. The Fathers did rely on reason when experience failed them. Hence any interpretation of their work that is to rise above mere description will have to take into account their rational princi ples of government, that is to say, their political theory.
