En 881, les Normands l'incendi�rent. Il fut reconstruit et trans form� en une �glise coll�giale. Au xie si�cle, le nombre des fr�res, autrefois plus grand, �tait r�duit � cinquante, qui, gr�ce aux secours de l'�v�que G�rard (1076 prenaient leurs repas dans un r�fectoire commun 3. Cette �glise subsista jusqu'en 1545. A cette date, Charles - Quint la fit raser pour construire une citadelle sur son emplacement; les chanoines de Saint - G�ri pas s�rent alors � Cambrai dans l'�glise de Saint - Vaast, qui porte maintenant le nom de Saint - G�ri, et o�, dans un choeur magni fique que les chanoines construisirent, repose le corps du saint4.
