`All our animals showed their independence at a dishearteningly early age.' The Toveys attempt to settle down to a quiet life in the country. Unfortunately for them, however, their tyrannical Siamese cats have other ideas. From causing an uproar on the BBC to staying out all night and claiming to have been kidnapped, Sheba and Solomon's outrageous behaviour leaves the Toveys at their wits' end. Meanwhile Doreen has to contend with her husband's disastrous skills as a handyman, and a runaway tortoise called Tarzan. Both human and animal characters come to life on the page, including Sidney the problem-prone gardener and Blondin the brandy-swilling squirrel. This witty and stylish tale will have animal-lovers giggling to the very last page. Doreen Tovey has written more than a dozen books, which have sold over 100,000 copies in eight countries.

When I was a very little girl, my grandmother gave me, for my birthday, three of Doreen Tovey's books (Cats in the Belfry, Donkey Work and Life With Grandma) which were beautiful hardback editions with delicate drawings by Maurice Wilson in 'Cats in the Belfry' and 'Donkey Work', and cartoons by ffoulkes in 'Life With Grandma', but the other book was out of stock. Over the years since (and I am now a Granny myself) I have made sporadic attempts to make up the set, but until now have been unable to find the correct publisher and edition, so was delighted to find it here! Thrilled with my purchase and I read it cover to cover immediately on its arrival and then put it with its long-lost cousins safley on my shelves for a new set of children to enjoy.

Wonderful writer
This is just one of Doreen Tovey's many wonderful books. I only wish I could find copies of the ones I have not read.
