For anyone interested in tracing a family name or family history in England, this should be a useful guide. It provides the origin and meaning of 16,000 English names, including 5000 added for the current 1990s edition, reflecting the results of recent research. Variant name-forms are fully cross-referenced and the book contains information on early name-forms, including dates and sources. A 46-page introduction on English surnames puts the work in context.

Seller's Description:
Very good. This book is in stock now, in our UK premises. Photos of our books are available on request (the pictures you see on Alibris are NOT our own).
This book is basically boring. It is simply a very simplified dictionary of common English surnames that one could get by surfing the web. Uncreative and not what I thought I was purchasing. I won't throw it away but I know that Adams comes from Adam, the first. Come on and add something about the Adams families, just a sentence or two would have made the book of some interest.
