Seller's Description:
Peierls. Statistical Physics: Volume 5 of Course of Theoretical Physics by L. D. Landau and E. M. Lifshitz, translated by E. Peierls and R. F. Peierls, is part of the esteemed Addison-Wesley Series in Advanced Physics. This hardcover edition is bound in semi-gloss forest green cloth-covered boards. A publisher is not stated within the book other than its association with the Addison-Wesley Series. The copyright date of 1958 is printed on both the copyright and title pages. Due to the dimensions of the book (7.7 x 5.25 inches) and the pulp paper used in the text block, it is believed that the book was not actually printed by Addison-Wesley but possibly in the Balkans, Asia, or the former Soviet Union. This is a rare early printing. The book is in Very Good condition without a dust jacket. The covers are in great shape with only light edge wear, very tiny wear spots exposing the boards underneath, and some toning to the spine cloth. The binding is square and tight. There is minor abrasion to the front paste-down and front flyleaf, but the interior pages are clean and unmarked. The book will be carefully packaged for shipment to protect it from the elements, and a USPS electronic tracking number will be issued free of charge. Feel free to contact us for more information or pictures regarding the book. This volume, the fifth in the authors' nine-volume Course of Theoretical Physics, is dedicated to the exposition of statistical physics and thermodynamics. As with the other volumes in the set, the authors aim to state general principles as clearly as possible while presenting numerous specific applications comprehensively. However, this book does not cover the theories of electric and magnetic properties of matter, which are addressed in another volume focusing on the electrodynamics of material media. Similarly, problems of nonequilibrium phenomena are not included, as the authors plan to cover these topics in another volume. 484 pages. Addison-Wesley Series in Advanced Physics.
