Well, this text does cover the basics but it is not a book that is extremely eloquent. There is a much better way to present introductory biology in terms of explanation and visual materials.
I would recommend Booker much more than Raven. Its not that this is a bad book its just that there is a much better source of explanation out there. The material in the book can be made to appear very dry.
