Having enjoyed many books regarding Indigenous Indian tribes and their ways of life and culture, The Earth is All That Lasts by Mark Lee Gardner had me enthralled from beginning to end. The various Plains Tribes that mastered the horse and followed the vast herds of Buffalo were deservedly known as one of the greatest cavalry on Earth. This exhaustively researched book made me feel like I was right there, witnessing their valiant yet doomed fight to hold back the flood of (mostly) white settlers, gold seekers and assorted scoundrels who ended a way of life hundreds of generations old.
