Seller's Description:
Richard Bender and Author. Very Good in Very Good jacket. Book SIGNED and INSCRIBED by author on endpaper. Octavo, hardcover, VG in VG white glossy dj. 152 pp. Clean, unmarked other than author's note. Bender was drawn to Amish quilts; she was struck by their deep, saturated colors, the geometric simplicity of their design, and their quiet power. "They spoke directly to me, " she writes. "They knew something. They went straight to my heart." That was the beginning of her "journey of the spirit."
The book arrived fast and in good condition. It was just as advertised. Like this site because it has a lot of variety to offer. You can find almost anything you want here, and the prices are reasonable. It is a great site to compare prices on.

I enjoyed reading of the author's experience with the Amish. I am not Amish, but I admire their simple, organized life style. I grew up near Amish people. They are great neighbors. I would recommend this book to those who are interested in simple living.

Plain and Simple
Overall I enjoyed the book. Being a fan of Amish novels,I found this book a little different. The author became interested in Amish quilts and faceless dolls. She was able to leave her life for a while and live with the Amish.Ms. Bender is an artist. She wanted to learn the Amish way of expression and also learn to simplify her life. I think she accomplished both. She was also able to write an interesting account of the Plain lifestyle. Growing up in a more rural area than Ms. Bender; I was amused by her overwelming life. I was also taken aback by her ability to just leave her own work and home. I found Plain and Simple to be an instructive and entertaining read.

Sue Bender's account of her time spent among the Amish and what she learned there is an eye-opening and, potentially, a life-changing little book of wisdom. She manages to bring light to some basic old recommendations for learning to focus on the present, to understand the stress of unlimited choices, and to find satisfaction and pleasure in the "doing" rather than seeing our every task as something to be gotten out of the way in order to do something more highly valued. I recommend it enthusiastically, especially for women who are feeling harried!
