In the Nevada desert, a handful of scientists are battling to retrieve a swarm of rogue micro-robots that has escaped from the lab. The swarm is self-sustaining, self-reproducing and capable of learning from experience. It is, to all intents and purposes, alive. And very, very deadly. This man really does not let up in this book. Quite a lot of thought went into it as the main character regularly explains this thoughts and scientific conjecture around what's happening and how it relates to nature, blurring the line between evolution in organic and inorganic creatures. When you start to catch onto what's going on throughout the novel, it hits you in the best way. It's an extremely satisfying, bite-sized cautionary tale that both gives you shivers and makes you think, and I absolutely love it.

Prey, the Nano-Problem
Prey is another great science-fiction thriller from the phenomenal Michael Crichton. Crichton rarely fails to capture the reader with realistic and relatable detail from Andromeda Strain to Jurassic Park, from Sphere to Next. Prey is no exception. In this novel Crichton challenges scientists with the ramifications of nano-technology as we follow an unemployed code-writer, in the Silicon Valley, back into work. Michael Crichton was never one to dissapoint and I recomend any of his books for a thorough read.
