highly readable
This was a highly readable, comprehensive book, by a person who is both a scholar and a member of the culture he describes. I am using the book for research purposes and it has provided me an insider's view of the culture, the people and the region. If you want to know more about the Dinka (many of the Lost Boys of Sudan are from this tribe) this is the first place to go. Given the current situation in Southern Sudan and Darfur, Francis Mading Deng's book projects a tragic irony that is heartbreaking to contemplate.
