A dramatic novel of passion, politics and betrayal from the author of The Other Boleyn Girl, Philippa Gregory. Mary, Queen of Scots, fights to regain her kingdom whilst under the guard of Queen Elizabeth's trusted accomplice, Bess of Hardwick. Two women fighting for one man; two queens competing for dominance Mary Queen of Scotts is in flight from rebels in Scotland, and puts her trust in her cousin Elizabeth. But she finds herself imprisoned as the enforced guest of George Talbot and his determined new wife, Bess of Hardwick. The couple welcome the doomed queen, certain that this will bring them nothing but advantage in the competitive world of Tudor England. To their horror they find that their home becomes the epicentre of intrigue against Elizabeth. Even their own loyalty comes under suspicion, as George's hopeless admiration for the beautiful Mary is impossible to hide. The conspiracies come together in the greatest threat that Elizabeth has ever faced. She has no choice but to instruct her spy-master, Cecil, to set the trap to catch her cousin. But even he is caught by the spell of this remarkable young woman, who is prepared to die rather than deny her need for freedom.

Good Reading!
I am a great fan on Ms. Gregory's writing. I have been especially fond on the books written on Elizabeth 1, Anne Boleyn, Mary Queen of Scots, and Catherine of Aragon. I love her period detail which she fleshes out with her intelligent characters and story lines.

A look into the Elizabethean Monarchy
Good historical accuracy combined with a look into the personalities and beliefs of the times. Using a different character's voice for each chapter really brought the era to life. At first you see Mary Stewart as a very sympathetic character and only slowly do you begin through her interactions, to see her as an amoral, abusive, manipulative, and dangerous "Beep". A great read and good bit of history in an accessable form.

Which Queen?
Mary,Queen of Scots, was only 26 years old when she crossed the Scottish border into England to seek the help of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I. What she received was life imprisonment simply because of who she was. Her jailors, on Elizabeth's behalf, were a newly married couple - Bess of Hardwick and The Earl of Shrewsbury. These three form the basis of a triangle that would have a tremendous impact on the rest of their lives. Philippa Gregory uses these circumstances to craft a passionate tale of love, loyalty and honor which is a delight to read

The Jewel in Philippa Gregory's Crown
I have been a big fan of Philippa Gregory for years. I have read all her books and given them as gifts to friends and family. I read this book in one night. It is truly "the Jewel in her Writing Crown". It shows three people, including Queen Mary, and what they want through during Mary's imprisonment in England. It is a completely new look at Mary's life and her effect on others. Brilliantly done. Buy it as soon as you can. You will want to give it to your family and friends. You will also want to read it over and over. BRAVO!!!
