Nach dem Wehrdienst machte er die Fotografie zum Hauptberuf und unterrichtete und hielt Vorträge an zwei angesehenen Institutionen in New York: The School of Visual Arts und The New School/Parsons. Später kehrte er zu seinen europäischen Wurzeln zurück und lebt heute in Frankreich, außerhalb von Paris.
