Als Angehöriger der US-Army geriet er in Kriegsgefangenschaft und wurde 1945 Zeuge des Luftangriffs auf Dresden. Seit den 50er Jahren lebte er als freier Schriftsteller in New York und verfasste über hundert Kurzgeschichten und mehrere Romane. Kurt Vonnegut verstarb 2007. Harry Rowohlt, geb. am 27. März 1945 in Hamburg 13, lebt heute als Autor, Übersetzer und begnadeter Vortragskünstler in Hamburg Eppendorf. Nebenbei brilliert er unregelmäßig als Penner Harry in der Fernsehserie 'Lindenstrasse'. 1999 erhielt er den Johann-Heinrich-Voß-Preis der Deutschen Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung. Im Januar 2001 erhielt er den Satirepreis "Göttinger Elch".
