Racing in the early part of the twentieth century, the rangy bay gelding known affectionately as "Old Bones" went from backup performer to headliner in 1918 when he won the Kentucky Derby. Exterminator had been the workmate of stable star Sun Briar. When Sun Briar was unable to run in the Derby, Exterminator took his place and brought home the roses.
