Photograph is SPECIFIC to this listing. Brown/gray cloth over boards, 6 1/2 × 9 3/4", 255 pages. Contents; Preface, The Nairs, The Etayans, The Neilgherrians, The Aleutians, The Khonds. From the Preface: "WE are too apt to look down scornfully from the heights of modern civilization upon the mental processes of former times, upon the ways of feeling, acting and thinking......We have ended by believing that here is no intelligence but our own, no morality that does not fit in with out formulas...Scarcely any primitive folk are not in existence; soon there will be none...." The printing of the covers are most interesting. On the back cover is "Curious Byways of" then "Anthropology" is printed on the spine and printed on the actual cover is: "Sexual Savage and Esoteric Customs of Primitive Peoples" One surmises that the whole title on a spine would have been too much for the general public of the early 1930's.
