Includes 320 illustrations, 170 plates in full colour. Published to accompany the exhibition Black Art: Ancestral Legacy organised by the Dallas Museum of Art in 1989. Each section is introduced with an essay by a specialist in that area, covering connections to spiritaulity, folk art, the land, Black art in the Caribbean and a historical perspective and chronology.
