Seller's Description:
Very Good. Book Octavo, softcover, glossy pictorial wrappers. Near fine; giftable. Great book for 4th graders in California who study the missions. Following Christopher Columbus' discovery of the New World, Pope Alexander VI divided the Americas into two sphere---all lands to the west of the dividing line were assigned to Spain, and all east to Portugal. The task of creating a chain of missions in Upper, or Alta, California fell on the shoulders of Franciscan Father Junipero Serra to convert native Indian peoples to Christianity. Ultimately 21 missions were established; all, in varying states of restoration, stand today. 64 pp. including index and notes on author.
