A native Montanan, Ted Jordan Meredith studied literature, science, philosophy, and comparative religion at the University of Montana in Missoula. On his journey to a Masters Degree, Ted worked summers as a timber faller and with a hotshot helicopter fire fighting crew during some of Montana's worst forest fire seasons. Ted has written a number of books on the wines of the Pacific Northwest and a seminal work on bamboo, which accorded him the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries Literature Award and The New York Times Editor's Choice for Best Books for Gardening. Subsequent works include a landmark work on garlic that incorporates DNA findings and explores the many dozens of garlic varieties that you may find at better farmers markets but never at your local supermarket. Ted's wife proposed to him when she was three. After careful deliberation he accepted 48 years later. They now live in the Pacific Northwest with an oversized Havanese appropriately named Ruckus. Ted's books on wine, food, nature, and literature reflect his compelling interest in sustenance for the body, mind, and spirit. See less
