Philip Fitzpatrick
Philip Fitzpatrick studied Anthropology and Law at the Australian School of Pacific Administration and has degrees in Literature and Government from the University of Queensland. He is an Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, a member of the Anthropological Society of South Australia. Philip Fitzpatrick studied Anthropology and Law at the Australian School of Pacific Administration and has degrees in Literature and Government from the University of Queensland. He is an Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, a member of the Anthropological Society of South Australia. He was a field officer in Papua New Guinea between 1967 and 1973. Between 1974 and 1994 he was successively a Site Recorder, Registrar of Aboriginal Sites and Manager of the Aboriginal Heritage Branch in South Australia. Since 1994 he has worked as an independent consultant in both Australia and Papua New Guinea. To date, he has carried out over 300 heritage surveys and written numerous detailed social mapping, native title and heritage research reports. He also carries out pro bono work among indigenous communities in both Australia and Papua New Guinea. He is widely published, in both academic and popular media. He is the author of six novels. In 2010 he co-founded a national annual literature competition in Papua New Guinea. He also edits and publishes the annual Papua New Guinea Crocodile Literary Prize Anthology. See less
