Patrice Madura Ward-Steinman is professor of music education at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Bloomington. A specialist in choral music education, vocal jazz, and vocal music research, she is a former professor and music education department chair at the University of Southern California, and a former faculty member and conductor of choral ensembles at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne. She also has taught choral and general music for grades K-12 and has performed extensively as a pianist. Professor Madura is the author of four other books: Becoming a Choral Music Teacher (Routledge, 2009), Music Education in Your Hands (With Michael L. Mark, Routledge, 2009), Images of America: Madura's Danceland (Arcadia, 2010) and Getting Started With Vocal Improvisation (MENC, 1999). She has published articles in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin for the Council of Research in Music Education, Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, Philosophy of Music Education Review, Psychology of Music, International Journal of Music Education, and Teaching Music.
