Michael Mark is emeritus professor of music at Towson University, where he also served as dean of the graduate school. Michael Mark is emeritus professor of music at Towson University, where he also served as dean of the graduate school. Prior to that, he was head of the music education program at The Catholic University of America. Earlier, he was a music teacher in Prince George's County, Maryland, supervisor of music for the public schools of Auburn and Elmira, New York, and assistant professor at Morgan State University in Baltimore. Dr. Mark is a member of the Music Educators Hall of Fame of the National Association for Music Education and the Hall of Fame of the Maryland Music Educators Association. He is a past president of the Maryland Music Educators Association and has served on several National Association for Music Education (NAfME) committees, including two terms on the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Research in Music Education. He is former chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance Alumni Society, and he holds degrees from The George Washington University, The University of Michigan, and The Catholic University of America. A Fulbright scholar, he has been recognized by Catholic University with its Alumni Achievement Award. Dr. Mark is the author of approximately 75 juried articles and several books: Source Readings in Music Education History (Routledge, 3rd Edition, 2008), A History of American Music Education (with Charles Gary, Rowman and Littlefield Education 2007, 3rd Edition), A Concise History of American Music Education (Rowman and Littlefield Education, 2008), Music Education in Your Hands (with Patrice Madura, Routledge, 2009), and But Not Next Door (Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc., 1999).
