John Bingham is my author's pseudonym for "Winter Roses." I also chose to use pseudonyms throughout the book, to help protect those whose psyches were scarred badly by events that were beyond their control. Writing the book was an intensely personal effort: Marie was my wife Ann's big sister and Frank was my best buddy. Frank and his brothers-in-arms are true war heroes; their bravery in nonstop daily combat borders on disbelief. Yet Marie, along with all of the spouses left behind behind by war, is also brave beyond belief. Living every day while wondering if their husband will die that day requires unspeakable courage. Their children are equally brave. They know very well that their daddy is in danger. Who is the bravest of the brave? The reader can judge, but I cannot. I knew and loved them all. See less
