His most well-known work, The Golden Age of the American Racing Car, almost single-handedly rescued the memory of an entire era of brilliant racecar work in the United States. Borgeson was editor-in-chief of Motor Trend magazine; he also wrote for Sports Car Illustrated magazine (now Car and Driver), and Automobile Quarterly.
