Dr. Charles S. White is currently the Executive Director of the Social Science Education Consortium. For 22 years he was associate professor and coordinator for PK-12 History/Social Studies at Boston University's School of Education, where he taught elementary and secondary social studies methods courses until his retirement in 2016. Dr. White also created a preservice course called Project Citizen, designed to prepare future teachers to promote action civics. His work with the first wave of microcomputers in education during his doctoral studies at Indiana University, Dr. White's initial university position was as coordinator of instructional technology programs and director of the Center for Interactive Educational Technology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. After seven years, though, he wanted to return to his first love - social studies and civic education - and this lead him to BU in 1994. For 15 years, Dr. White collaborated with teachers and education administrators in Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, South Africa, Indonesia, Northern Ireland, and Mongolia to revamp civics curriculum and teacher education to support education for democracy. He and his wife currently reside outside of Boston, Massachusetts. See less
