Carol Stangler is an environmental artist who has woven and constructed baskets and sculptures from vines, bark, and natural materials for over 20 years. In 1991 she was awarded grants to experiment with bamboo as a material for fine crafts, and soon thereafter traveled in Japan. Carol Stangler is an environmental artist who has woven and constructed baskets and sculptures from vines, bark, and natural materials for over 20 years. In 1991 she was awarded grants to experiment with bamboo as a material for fine crafts, and soon thereafter traveled in Japan. Since then she has built bamboo structures in public and private spaces and exhibited her bamboo work in galleries throughout the Southeast. Stangler holds a master's degree in education, teaching her art in workshops, residencies, and as a part-time instructor in the School of Art and Design at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She has received numerous grants and honors, including the 1997 Georgia Arts Commission on Women Award for "Outstanding Contribution to the Visual Arts in Georgia."
