This first collection of Thomas Merton's nature writings reveals the beloved spiritual master as an environmentalist ahead of his time. A primer on eco-spirituality, this important book is skillfully edited by Kathleen Deignan, Ph.D., with a foreword by Thomas Berry and art by John Giuliani. "Merton would be thrilled with this book."--Brother David Steindl-Rast, OSB

This is one of the best of the edited works by Thomas Merton. Since his death many people hav gleaned a book or two based on a single theme from his numerous writings. Usually, those books have more to say about the editor than they do about the teachings of Father Merton. This book, however, is excellent. By picking and choosing from Father Merton's numerous nature writings Ms. Deignan has used Merton to explain Merton and this is laudatory. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the Catholic monastic tradition - or anyone who appreciates good writing in general.
