This is a second in a trilogy. I did not read the others yet, but I will. I enjoyed this writer and her story. This is a period piece that holds intrigue but not the same old intrigue as many have. There is no ransom, kidnapping, saving a man's life with healing skill, nor a damsel in distress. This is a story about foreign government and a spy bent to overthrow his goverment ruler. Part of his plan is to gain a wife and respectibility on the shores of England to have cover as a suspect. In addition, he hopes to gain information about the mother he never knew and what happened to her. Enter Livia - the gal who resides in his mother's former residence and the gal he has been slated to marry for her contacts. He sets about his plan singlemindedly. However, he becomes attracted to her. In the ensuing wooing, he plans his rebellion. She is smart and gains hints that all is not as it appears. Still, she goes along due to her feelings for the prince. As she slowly gains knowledge she is hurt, but cannot deny that she loves him and does not wish him dead - even after all the deceipt he has heaped upon her. He is captured and the final conflict is set at the docks. You will have to read how she proceeds and to what lengths she goes to for him. After all is done there, they confront and come to an agreement that the marriage will be name only and he will return to his country and plan his rebellion from there and she will stay in London married in name only. Good read - right to the end to find out what happens after they make that agreement.
