A Nature story of a beloved animal
This book is written by naturalist and wild-life expert Helen Hoover (with pen-and-ink drawings by her husband, Adrian Hoover. It tells the story of a young stag deer who has been blinded in one eye by
someone's carelessness and how with a gentle demeanor (over time) trains the deer to deal with his handicap. The story continues over several years' time, sharing how this stag and his off-spring live in the wild of the Hoover's home area .... without harm. It is a story of trust and value.
I read this book every year, and have done so since the time that I was in my teens, because of the quality of human kindness and life's delicate
balance and nature's beauty.

Truly heart warming
This is a truly heart warming true story of a couple who lived in the north woods of Minnesota and shared their daily lives with nature at their doorstep. Helen Hoover has a gift with words to help the reader experience what she is seeing and feeling. Ade and Helen moved to the north woods to escape the craziness of city life that was taking its toll on their health. This book tells of the years during which a family of deer befriended and trusted them, visiting their home regularly. If you love animals, and living close to nature, then this true story is a marvel and such a change from our own hectic modern technological lives.
