I found this book in my high school library and bought a hardcover which I just placed in my new bookshelf. The stories of a "timber cruiser" and his friends, Chief Tibeash and Hank (who illustrated the book). It has long been a staple which my brother loved as well. I could not live as simply as Roelands does, but he has taught me a great deal. Growing up on a lake in the summers helped. Going into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and into the Quetico as a young man became delightful though I did not relate the two at the time. I learned a great deal from this book and heartily recommend it to anyone. ANY ONE.

Cache Lake
Packed with practical information like the old Indian lore books I used to read as a kid. I sent a copy to my cousin in Minnesota because I liked it so much and knew he would, too. We used to shoot and check his trapline together in Ohio and camp out together and do all sorts of things in the woods together when we were kids. I could almost secretly be a kid again as I was reading this book.
