It contains errors--and not about matters very esoteric.
The "Description of the Solemn Parish Mass at the Beginning of the Twentieth Century" states: "The procession moves forward singing the introit; the priest performs the aspersion with holy water, then recites the prayers at the foot of the altar and censes the altar..." In fact the aspersion of the congregation preceded the introit, and, when the aspersion was performed, the introit did not accompany a procession. After the aspersion the celebrant, accompanied by the ministers, went to the sedilia to exchange the cope for the chasuble and maniple. The singing of the introit began only when he returned to the altar to begin the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar.
The pre-Conciliar Roman Mass is a subject about which abundant information is readily available. If errors about it passed the editors' review, readers can hardly trust the information this book provides about more esoteric subjects. I expected more from Oxford University Press.
