A Lifetime of healthy eating
This book is easy to understand and a valuable healing and dieting tool to those who are motivated to change their dietary habits and choose health. Though written a decade ago, I am trying to follow it myself on a limited basis to avoid full blown diabetes at 57. He advocates about 140 grams of carb a day, mostly from fruits and veggies, and about 100 grams of protein for an average woman. Doctor Sears has backed up his statements with documented medical studies. He discusses glycemic load, inflammation and its relationship to excess insulin, and how fish oil can help alleviate chronic conditions like hypertension, arthritis, and insulin resistance. I have been taking the fish oil and sort of following the diet recommendations and my arthritis is much better and I my blood pressure is lowering, hence the need for less high blood pressure meds. For some, choosing to eat only one or two servings of starches, as in bread, pasta, may be more of a challenge than a person can handle. This book inspired me to do even better in my food choices and by following Doctor Sear's recommendations on fish oil and reducing starches, I am feeling better already.
