I allude to the anti-corn-law League. Usefully and effectively the League has drawn the attention of the people to the subject of the Corn Laws at a time when they are suffering and seeking the cause of their suffering; and it has brought conviction home to their minds. In this it has doubtless been aided by the course that was pur sued by the House last year; for there is, I believe, hardly a ground upon which the Corn Laws had up to that time been rested that was not then abandoned by those who are responsible for their maintenance.
