family means everthing
If you like coldsmiths stories, like I do, you will enjoy this one also. Coldsmith continues his story line to the son of Woodchuck, the ex-frenchman that has now been one of the people for over ten years, to his son Red Feather, known since childhood as Ground Squirrel--a name he is trying to outgrow, and will before the trip is over. Red Feather is sixteen, and on his first trip to Sante Fe to trade with the Spanish. His father has been there many times now. (The Medicine Knife) Red Feather gets disoriented in the city of Sante Fe, and wanders into the camp of the french Marquis de Foixainne. Red Feather does not know that his father is tecnically a deserter of the french army from the great lakes. (Lake Michigan) What follows is the story of how Red Feather is shot as a thief, falls in love with his nurse, and after nearly dying on the "desert Trail" for lack of water, --well I must leave some of the story for you to discover.
