Be prepared to read about and see dolls almost exclusively from the 19th century. While this may be of great interest to some collectors and historians, readers might be caught unaware, thinking the book covers 20th-century dolls as well. This 6 lb. book contains images that could be disturbing to some doll lovers. Why? Many of the dolls port... rayed are grotesque in shape, facial features, and in deterioration. The dolls portrayed on the dust jacket are among the prettiest of the dolls presented. Historical accuracy is impressive as are the minute details Fox has gathered on each doll. It's not an easy book to read, as one cannot hold such a large, heavy book for long. Serious doll collectors and historians must--absolutely must--own this book. The casual doll lover (as I am) may find it burdensome and uninteresting. It has the look and feel of the 1970s (as it should), but the 1970s do not wear well over time.
