Dr. Robert H. Lustig, a current sugar researcher (who runs an obesity clinic connected with the University of California, San Francisco), in his recent lecture titled "Sugar, the Bitter Truth" (available for viewing on line, where he goes on to point out that high fructose corn syrup is even worse for the body than regular sugar), mentions Yudkin's classic book "Pure, White and Deadly". He said that he read the book about a year before, and without knowing it, he was a "Yudkin disciple". He went on to say that "Every single thing that this man said in 1972 is the God's honest truth... If you want to read a true prophecy, you find this book... I'm telling you, every single thing this guy said has come to pass. It's astounding. I am in awe of this guy." It appears that this book, Sweet and Dangerous, is the mass market version of Dr. Yudkin's original "Pure, White and Deadly".
As Dr. Lustig indicated, this is a TREMENDOUS book, which is a real classic. This seems to be a prophecy of what has happened to North America in the past 28 years. Chapters like "How sugar can give you a pain in the middle", the chapter on the effects on "the eyes, teeth, skin, joings - and cancer", and "Does sugar accelerate the life process - and death, too?" help expain the current problems we are experiencing.
