Highly recommend this book to anyone even remotely interested in off-grid living, camping, or even just learning about "greener" living. As each edition is updated to include the best recent products and ideas, it's definitely in your best interest to track down the latest version you can find. That being said, even older editions are chock full of sensible, easy to understand ideas with complete explanations. This is not a mere "catalog", the items highlighted for sale just complement the informational text.

Good Generic Overview
I would recommend this book to the beginner, but not the avid solar student. It is a little on the basic side. Technology has changed considerably in the past 5 years. It is a good basic primer though. Visit some of the on-line trade organizations for more information, or go to solar trade show for current technology updates.
