The series is presented from Joe's perspective, and his outgoing personality includes a genial humor and a perception that accepts reality and eagerly embraces the opportunities that come his way. The series is marked by a number of productive relationships between Joe and men well beyond retirement age. In Sneathen & Gonne, we meet more of the characters who live and earn a living along the Bay. Joe is involved in the lumber mill as partner in the profits. He and his friends again end up solving a mystery as they dig into events in the area.
